Unnecessary Spending?

Image from makemeupkia.blogspot.co.uk

I was sat at my desk today, and out of no where found myself thinking about what beauty products I wanted to splurge on next. I convinced myself that a new foundation wouldn't go a miss - despite the fact  that I already have one, and also decided I want  to stock up on some lip balms... unnecessary spending.

Anyway - every time I find my thoughts heading towards spending money I shake myself off and repeat - 'No. I am Budget Barbie. Bitch on  Budget.' - it's  a  new thing that I do... yes, it's a little weird but it seems  to do the trick.

The point is, you don't really have to spend lots of money on beauty products do you? No, I'm not on about going bare faced (I'm Budget Barbie not Budget Bore). I'm going to say one word - and don't run away until you hear me out, promise? :

Samples.

Yep I said it. Samples. NOT the samples that come in shiny boxes and cost £10 & delivery per month *cough* Glossy Box *cough* - whilst I think the idea of these are nice, I just don't think their worth it, I get that they're beauty boxes and not brain boxes but they always give out the wrong products i.e. Olive coloured foundation for ladies with porcelain skin... hardly rocket science if you ask me.

Anyway back to the point, if you look into it properly there are lots of free samples that you can collect to stock up your makeup bag. Here are a few examples:

Kind to Lips Essential Lip Balm. SPF15. - all you need to do is register on the Simple's website and fill in the form. Then, wait for the sample to arrive.

Ayvenda Firming Facial Oil. 3ml Sample. - again, fill out the form, and wait for your sample to come to you.

'Hair meet Wardrobe' styling products. Toni & Guy. - this ones a 'goodun. You will need to 'Like' their facebook page, choose one of five style products (Creative, Glamour, Casual, Classic or Men) then fill out the form. Again, this sample will be delivered to your door.

Invati Hair Products. - this comes as a 'sample pack' which consists of a 10ml exfoliating shampoo and a 10ml thickening conditioner. With this one you need to print out a voucher, then take it into your nearest Aveda Store.

Obviously I understand that you can't get all your beauty products for free, but it's sure worth a try. I'm going to do this for the next few months, just as an experiment to see how much I save on my makeup! Needless to say, I'll keep you updated on how it goes. Finding it embarrassing is not a choice for me - just in case the message isn't clear already - I'm on a budget.

Would you use samples to fill up your makeup bag? or do you find it a little embarrassing?

Thanks for stopping by,

Sometimes I wonder...

Today is Monday, and it's 18 degrees - barbecue weather. Anyhoo, I'm on my way to work (grudgingly) but we gotta work to make a living right?

Some times I wish I could become a stripper (for the money)... Or just win the lottery. Preferably the latter choice.

Don't think I'd make it as a cayote.

The outline.

I'm very familiar with this word:

It more or less sums me up for the last four years of my live.

Things need to change, and I plan to get very familiar with this word, because I plan to be on one of these permanently

Crash to reality...

So BASICALLY, this used to be my mantra -

Seriously, up to about a month ago, or a week ago - this woman lived in my head.
I know. She looks fierce right? - oh so persuasive.

I'm not gonna bore you, but the story began four years ago back when I was 18, when I hopped away to university. Now don't get me wrong, university was great and it's a given that when you come out of university you're gonna be in a little debt i.e. tuition, BUT I came out with that, and a couple few thousand pounds worse off thanks to my ex-besties Topshop, Newlook, River Island, Primark, Zara, Karen Millen, Urban Outfitters (you get the point?) Well yeah, I got into debt bigtime and vowed I'd never go back.

That little mess got cleared up, now four years down the line I appear to be in the same situation. I'm a shopaholic (Yes. I said it. I am a shopaholic), having said this I am in no way a phsyco - so I don't blame that voice inside my head -still, let's just say I've kicked her ass to the curb.

I owe x amount, and have nothing to show for it. I've had enough of lying to myself, and everyone else around me. I know it sounds cliche but I don't know why I shopped so much, I just did it - and it's always been something I'm good at.

Either way those days are gone.

So why 'Budget Barbie'? Barbie's have always been glamorous, girly and fun plus most of them are renowned for their fabulous wardrobes. Barbie's can be anything that they want to be, and that's what I want. The only thing is, I'm gonna do it on a budget.

The aim of the game is to prove to myself that I can be all of those things, but do it whilst being financially responsible.  So here goes. Being a shopaholic is not as fun as it seems, and I want to start a new life that's fun, fabulous and debt free.

Will you join me on my mission?
